Ode to My True Love

Moonstruck - John Patrick Shanley

Ronny
Loretta, I love you. Not like they
told you love is and I didn't know
this either. But love don't make
things nice, it ruins everything, it
breaks your heart, it makes things a
mess. We're not here to make things
perfect. Snowflakes are perfect. The
stars are perfect. Not us. We are
here to ruin ourselves and break our
hearts and love the wrong people and
die!

Seeing all the Valentines posts floating around blogland made me think about the true meaning of love.  Like Ronny Cammareri said 'not like they told you love is'.  Not husband love, romantic love, how you love your children...you know the type of love I'm talking about ladies...Real gut wrenching, making you drive miles in a snow storm to an antique market love...And this came spewing out of my heart.  I thought I would open my spewing heart up to all of you. Ahem...(clearing my throat)...here goes:

Oh vintage globe you may be dated
Even though you are likely faded
Source
Old books with pages torn and musty
Are loved by me even if they’re dusty
Source
Old alarm clocks big and small
Line every shelf on my family room wall
Source
Rolling pins on a silver platter
Make my heart go a pitter patter
Source
Tea cups, ironstone and floral china
Every time I see you, I wanna make you mina
Source
Even though my budgets measley
I could NEVER pass up a Mrs Beasley
Source

Oh Chrissy, Velvet and Cinnamon doll
I can’t walk by you without hearing the call

While your condition may be rough
One, two, three is not enough

Old tarnished anything silver plate
Rickety  soda, milk or tea crate
Mismatched Victorian leather skate
Rusty old Iron gate,
Cellulose saltshaker without a mate
Worry not about your fate
You’ll come home with me without debate!

More Wire Art

It seems that when I go to an antique show, I see the same item at many different dealers.  It makes me wonder if they all went to the same estate sale!  Well this post isn't about antique shows (because I'm too sad to even think about them - There's a dry spell from October to May for antique shows in Toronto).  Its about crafting!  I just made my wire heart wreath this week, when lo and behold, I was flipping through the french Marie Claire Idées magazine where they showed a paper mache wire branch with a bird cage...
Ok, so the stem is a bit thicker, and green, but other than that...
After making the heart, I was eager to try something else.  This was so much fun.

At first I made it with a red bird, but didn't like it.  So I changed it for one made with sheet music patterned wrapping paper.

I had the book page flowers left over from the heart wreath, and I punched a few pale yellow ones for layering. Page leaves were also paper maché'd onto the stems. I also punched a few butterflies.

Oops, you can see the hot glue gun string hanging off the butterfly!

Its blizzarding here!! I hate winter!  Keep warm!

In the Shape of a Heart

It was a ruby that she wore
On a chain around her neck
In the shape of a heart
In the shape of a heart...

It was a time I won't forget
For the sorrow and regret
In the shape of a heart
In the shape of a heart...

I guess I never knew
What she was talking about
I guess I never knew
What she was living without...

People speak of love don't know what their thinking of
Wait around for the one who fits just like a glove

Speak in terms of belief and belonging
Try to fit some name to their longing
People speak of love

That has to be one of my FAVOURITE Jackson Browne songs!  I didn't even get to the next verse!!!

This isn't a 'Valentine' wreath, its just a paper flower wreath IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART!!!

It was very easy to make...

Just shape your wire into a heart

I added a loop at the bottom to hang some blingity bling

Then I used my MS four petal flower paper punch and punched out lots and lots of flowers from old book pages.

Then I glued on silver and white glitter randomly.

Some I just glittered the edges, and some I left blank.  Do what ever you like.

Then I randomly hot glued the flowers on the wreath (hint: white glue does NOT work!).

I just hung a chandelier crystal from the bottom loop, but an old earing or beads would look equally pretty.  It was a fast and fun craft...perfect in front of Poirot with a glass of red wine...Truth is I need to give the glass to my husband so that he doesn't complain while I craft!

Baby its cold outside!

A few years ago I taught myself to crochet, and started out with a very optimistic project.  I started with a granny square, and decided to create my young daughter a pretty afghan (what a '70s word!).  I can't believe I didn't ever post (or photograph) the finished afghan!  Its really quite lovely and I should post a photo one day.
A MILLION squares which need to get pieced together!
After crocheting a million squares, it took me about a year to finally piece it together!  No joke! It was pretty slow tedious work!  But it turned out so nicely!
Do you see the afghan in this advertisement?  The commercial and posters were shot in my house, and  thats my daughters bedroom.  THAT is my afghan!  It was quite flattering that in this series of commercials the Art Director didn't change ANYTHING in my home!  She said her work was done for her! Those are even my daughters Holly Hobby plates, pink frames, and butterfly wings!  Anyway, enough bragging!

Needless to say after my year long crochet project, I've only picked up my crochet needle a few more times since.  I had a real amigurami stint!  That was quite fun.  However, not too much crocheting after that.

I wanted to make myself fingerless gloves, but just didn't get around to it, so when I saw these at our local mega bookstore on sale for half price I bought them:

They are knitted, not crocheted, but they are wool and quite pretty.  However when do we ever leave anything alone?

I selected a bunch of pastel buttons from my HUGE button collection.
And Voilá!
That green button was from a cape my mom had made for me when I was 7 years old...oh the '70s!

I had to beat off my 28 year old and my 9 year old daughters!  Mines all mines!  Precious says its mines!!! (That was my Gollum impersonation btw).

Have a great weekend!  Now, time to get back to Marple on Netflix!
